Music Workshops

INDIVIDUAL SONGWRITING

1 hour 1:1 workshop where you work individually with your instructor. Beginning/Intermediate information is the same as in the group class.

This class uses a workshop format, instructor feedback and writing assignments to help writers generate a catalog of finished songs. Workshop themes are tailored depending upon individual student needs. Topics include: Song Structure; Getting Unstuck; Staying in the Creative Flow; Creating Catchy Hooks and Memorable Melodies; Catalog Character Sketches and Song Titles.

GROUP SONGWRITING

Same as individual class with the exception of getting instructor and peer feedback on your songs as well as the added benefit of exposing you to collaborative opportunities.

GUITAR LESSONS

If you need help developing your guitar playing to better utilize the guitar as a songwriting tool, we can tailor a songwriting/guitar lesson program for you which can help your melodies really flow. OR
If you simply want to pick up the guitar and learn...we can just focus on teaching you how to play.

Students are expected to bring a song for review each week, establishing a structure that allows students to get and stay in the creative flow. At the end of the workshop, you will have 3-4 new songs for your songbook!

Beginning songwriters: You should be able to play and sing well enough to play a song in class

Intermediate songwriters: To get the most out of this class, you should have written at least 5 songs and be able to play and sing well enough to perform in class, just well enough to communicate the song, everyone is there to learn! This is about working a fun and creative group!

Note: For guitar lessons, bring guitar notebook and something to write with. Day and some evening classes available. Contact us with two different days and times that you are available to meet and we can schedule a mutually convenient time. ***Please note that class tuition is due on the first day of class. Please indicate if you are interested in a group or individual workshop and whether you are a beginning or intermediate songwriter. All classes are taught in my Berkeley Studio. Lessons may be negotiated if you prefer them taught at another location.

Looping Pedal: Using the DigiTech JamMan, create endless layers of music of your instrument(s) and vocals. Recording, storing, over-dubbing - a great tool to help expand your performance, sharpen your chops or practice your vocal harmonies.
